Day 3: "The Great Depression"
Activity 1: "Dealing With Stress"
On this Blog I'm gonna exlain what would I do when I want to relax or de-stress.
When I'm stressing, I always listen to KPOP(Korean POP music), I watch the Ellen Degeneres show and going on Facebook/Twitter,Watch Philippines/Korean movies.

Activity 2: "Offering A Helping Hand"
During this period, people struggle to find work both here at home and overseases. It was a really tough time for people living in the Great Plains of the United States, brcuase they were hit with a huge drought that lasted for most of the decade. Many crops were damaged and farmers were not able to make enough money to feed their families.
In this blog, I am going to think that I was alive in the 1930's.I am also going to list 3 differet ways that I could raise funds for families to help them buy food.
-I think that I could've help these families by growing a different types of veges in their home, and sell it to get some money.

-Start making a donation box and place it on the market or some places that people use to go and buy staff from.
-These families should start a shoe shine/boot polish job in their town.
Bonus Activity: "Paying It Forward"
In the mid-1930's, things began to change for the better in NZ.More people were able to find work and receive a steady paycheck. They were still careful, however, with their money and rarely, if ever, bought treats or gifts for one another.
I am going to imagine that I was able to travel back in time to visit a family in the 1930's.I am going to bring a special gifts/treats for my family.
-I think that I would love to bring some homemade cookies, pineapple pies and some plums and orange.

Day 2: "The Roaring 20's (The 1920's)
Activity 1: "The Silent Movie"
The 1920's saw a massive surge in the number of people going to the movies.Huge new cinemas were built in both Auckland (The Civic Theatre) and Dunedin (Empire De Luxe). The most popular type of movies showing at local NZ cinemas were 'silent' film.
I am going to watch the trailer for Gold Rush. On this blog, I am going to talk about what was the movie is about.Would I enjoy watching a silent film? Why/Why not?
-The movie was about a Little tramp heads North to join in the Klondike rush. He was trapped in a small cabin by a blizzard.Eventually able to leave the cabin he falls for a young beautiful lady and she is a bar dancer, trying so hard to win her affections.I think that I will enjoy watching a silent film because it so funny, it helped me understand the importance of movement and stillness, I can learn about editing style, narrative economy, storytelling and it can helped me learn some skills about acting.
Activity 2: "Art Deco"
In the 1920's a new artistic movement emerged in NZ (and all around the world). It was called "Art Deco
. (Self Portrait By Tamara De Lempicka)
On this blog I am going to explain how I think of the colour of the painting ,Do I like it?I am also going to give this painting a rating out of 5 stars (1 star=terrible painting, 2 stars=pretty bad painting, 3 stars=okay painting, 4 stars=good painting, 5 stars=amazing painting.)and after I've rated the painting out of 5, I will explain why I gave that rating.
-I think the colour of the painting is very beautiful and light.I am going to give this painting a 3 out of 5.The painting is really good however I kind of don't like how the artist paint the hand of the woman in the painting. The hand is looked like a man hand to me, it simply look too big and the hand just doesn't fit with the women in the paint. That is the reason why I gave this painting a 3 out of 5.
Bonus Activity: "Crossing The Tasman"
In 1928, a crew of four men flew, for the first time, across the Tasman from Australia to NZ. One of the men on board the Southern Cross air plane was a New Zealander named T.H McWilliams. His job was to operate the radio in the air plane.Unfortunately, the radio stopped working shortly after take off and the rain and ice were so heavy that the pilot, Kingsford Smith, couldn't see out of his front windscreen.Yikes!Fortunately, the plane made it all the way across the Tasman landing in Christchurch after 14 hours trip.
In this blog, I am going to imagine that I was a member of the flight crew.I am going to write a poem that describes how I would've felt when I landed safely in Christchurch after such a long trip.
-I am so happy
That we landed so safely
And I am so lucky
that I still got my body
-When I get off the plane
My family was the first to come to my brain
Cause we haven't got in touch
And I miss them so much
-When i saw my family
I started to cry
They all ran to me and embraced me
And I thought this is what I wanted to be
Day One: "The Early Years"
Activity 1: "St Joseph's Cathedral"
St Joseph's Cathedral is just one of hundreds of beautiful Cathedrals around the world. On this Blog,I am going to rank these Cathedrals (Milan Cathedrals, Salisbury Cathedral, St Basil's Cathedral, Sagrada Familia including St Joseph's) from #1 (My favourite) #5 (My least favourite). I am also going to explain what I liked about my favourite Cathedral, and what I disliked about my least favourite Cathedral.
Favourite-Least favourite Cathedral
- #1)Sagrada Familia Cathedral
-#2)St Basil's Cathedral
-#3)Salisbury Cathedral
-#4)Milan Cathedral
-5#)St Joseph's
-The thing that i liked about Sagrada Familia Cathedral is that I loved the design outside it really beautiful,I loved it more because it stands near the water,I love the way the tower stands and I liked the colour that they used to paint it with. The thing that I disliked about the St Joseph's Cathedral is that I don't like the colour,I don't like the design and I just don't like the style of the tower.
Activity 2: "The Right To Vote"
NZ was the first country to give all women the right to vote. There were still countries in the world (e.g Saudi Arabia) who, until recently, did not allow women to vote.
I am going to explain what I think about the fact that women were not allowed to vote in Saudi Arabia until 2015.Is it fair? Why/Why not?
-I think that the fact why women in Saudi Arabia were not allowed to vote until 2015 is maybe because they think women can't do anything like men's and i think maybe because that there is not enough women would be available to staff female polling stations.
Bonus Activity: "In Flanders Field"
As the new century dawned, New Zealander settled into a period of relative calm. The calm lasted for about 15 years but came to a sudden end in 1914 when world war l erupted in Europe. The war lasted for almost 5 years ad claimed the lives of 18,000 New Zealander. It also claimed the lives of thousands of men and women from countries around the world.Every year, people remember these brave men and women on ANZAC day (25 April). Many people go to a special ANZAC day ceremony where they read a special poem that was written fr the fallen soldiers, the poem is called "In Flanders Field" By:John McCrae.
I am going to read the poem and explain what I think of the poem.Do I liked it? and how does it makes me feel.
-For me this poem is wonderful and very heartwarming and i loved it so much.I feel so lucky and thankful that I wasn't born at the time this war has happened.I also feel very sad for those who die on the war because they give up everything just to fight for the freedom of the kingdom but I am so proud of them.
Day 5: "The Dawn Of A New Era..."
Activity 1: "Translating Phrase"
Unlike the Maori, many of the European settlers didn't speak Te Reo Maori.Instead, they spoke English.I can see that it was very difficult for the two groups to communicate because they did not have a dictionary or a translator. These days we are able to use Internet to translate words and phrases from one language to another.
I am going to match these Maori phrases with their English translation.
Maori: English:
a)He pai taku ki te takaro i te whutuparo.(4) 1)Welcome to New Zealand.
b)He aha to ingoa?(3) 2) is my name.
c)Nau mai ki Aotearoa.(1) 3)What is your name?
d)Ko toku ingoa.(2) 4)I like to play rugby.
e)No hea koe?(5) 5)Where are you from?
Activity 2: "The Treaty Of Waitangi"
On February 1840, a very important document was signed by some Maori chiefs and representative of the British Crown in NZ.It was called the Treaty of Waitangi, (Te Tiriti O Waitangi) and it outlined how the two groups would live together and work together in NZ.It was the first document of it's kind to be signed in the entire world. The Treaty was signed in a place called Waitangi in Northern NZ.
In this blog, I will explain 3 fun things that I can do as a visitor in Waitangi. Which one would I like the most?
-3 Fun Things that i will do
-I will always visit their restaurant and try all their great food.
-I will watch live kapa haka performances
-I will visit the Treaty house
I think that i will like visit their restaurant and try all their great food the most.
Bonus Activity: "#EarnTheFern"
Years ago, a man named Melville Marks (Robby) Robinson was asked to organised a sporting competition for the people living in the Commonwealth countries. It is called Commonwealth Games. The first ever event took place in the Hamilton, Canada in 1930.One of NZ gold-medal-winning Commonwealth athletes was a man named Bill Kini.
In this blog I will imagine that I could interview Bill.I will write 4 question that I would ask Bill Kini.
4 Question
-How does it feel being very popular?
-What kind of exercise do you do to get fit?
-What would you do, if you were not a Commonwealth athletes?
-How did you competed in the Commonwealth Game?
Day 4: "Hitting A High Note...."
Activity 1: "The Waiata-A Song In Your Heart"
I am going to post a 3 interesting facts that I have learned about "Waiata"
-3 Interesting Facts about Waiata
-I have learned that in the dirge-like wailing of these songs, the Maori people give expression to their deepest feelings and, even today, when tribal gatherings take place, the upsurge of racial feelings which is characteristic of those occasions is intimately connected with the singing of their ancient love songs and laments.
-Here's another thing that i have learned about waiata is that the melodies move within a small range, varying from a second to a fourth.
-I learned that waiata has a different types of song which use the same chant-like melodies but vary in content and purpose are:
-Oriori: Lullaby used for the dual purpose of lulling a child to sleep and imparting knowledge.
-Pao: A derisive song and dance used for entertainment.
-Apakura: A lament for the dead sung during mourning ceremonies.
-Tuki Waka: A canoe song sung to give the time to the paddlers.
-Whakaaraara pa: A watchman's song sung by the watch on duty in the pa at night to give warning of danger.
Activity 2: "Playing Games"
Ki O Rahi Game
I'm gonna write a description of Ki O Rahi(in my own words). In my description I will include (a) the goal/purpose of the game and (b) 2 rules of the game.
My description of Ki O Rahi
-A group plays Ki O Rahi, a fast-paced contact sports that uses a circular field.Games are played between a defending 'Taniwha' team and an attacking 'Kioma' team.Teams score points by touching the tupu (central marker) with the ball.Rules vary from place to place, and the game can be played as a touch or tackle sports.
-Rules:Players in possession must be moving or they have 3-5 seconds to pass or shot or hand it over.
:Out of bounds, last team in possession hand over to other team.
Bonus Activity: "Music Festival-Matatini"
In NZ, a huge festival is held every 2 years, called "Te Matatini".This performing arts festival celebrates the tikanga(culture or custom)of Maori.Kapa Haka groups from around NZ are invited to attend the festival and each group gives a 25-minute performance. The performance are judge and the best teams win prizes. The golden medal winning for last year was Te Kapa Haka O Whanganga Mai Tawhiti.
In this blog I am going to write a short summary of how I think the members of Te Kapa Haka O Whanganga Mai Tawhiti were feeling when they found out that they have won.
-I have seen a Kapa Haka performance but never performed with a Kapa Haka group.
-I think that when the Te Kapa Haka O Whanganga Mai Tawhiti found out that they had won they were so surprise, they were so happy, they feel very good, they feel very cool, they cry because they don't know that they will reached to that position, they feel nice, awesome, full of joy and big happy smiles appeared on their faces.
Day 3: "It's All In The Family"
Activity 1: "The More The Merrier?"
In this activity I will imagine that I am a child in the 1880's and I had 9 siblings. I will described how would i feel.(Would I enjoy being a member of such a large family? Why or Why not)
-If I was a child in the 1880's and I had 9 siblings I think that i will enjoy being a member of such a large family because it is so much fun to have a lot of people in the house, there's always someone to catch up with, It is great having a lot of siblings so that we all help each other by doing the chores in the house, Help each other with our homework and being a member in such a large family is just so good and enjoyable and fun.
