Activity 2: "Letter"

I am going to write a letter to my friend about my journey on a Waka to NZ.(The trip have taken days and the water's rough and scary.I am going to describe how this must've felt and i am also on the waka with lots of other people and not much sleeps.)How do i feel about Moving to NZ.

Dear Silia,

I am on a big Waka with lots of different people on it and i feel so scared,lonely and tired.

I feel like because the sea's rough and scary,it was a heavy rainy day,there was no one that i could talk to and i can't get some sleep because i had to sit up and look after my stuffs.

When i think about moving to NZ,I feel sad but very excited.

Bonus Activity: "Waka Ama"

I am going to watch a short video of Waka Ama race.I would decide if i would like to be in a Waka Ama race one day.Why or Why not?

-Today people use Waka in a different ways like to race in a competition.I would not like to to be in one because i might break my hands,I might get tired and our Waka will lose the race,I would might drown in the sea,I am scared of big fish like whales and shark and not only that I will be scared to death if the whale or the shark might try to attack our boat and eat us.

In “Pirate Pie”two mean and nasty pirate cousins, Hector Humbug and Horatio Hogswoggle, attack Peg Leg Lil's cooking efforts. However, the confrontation brings them all unexpected business success.

Hector Humbug was captain of the Evil Weevil.He was the nastiest pirate ever to sail the South Seas.He plundered, and he robbed.He sank ships and cheated at cards.Captain Humbug disliked everyone,especially his cousin Horatio.Horatio Hogswoggle was captain of the Ben Barnacle.He was the meanest pirate ever to sail the North Seas.He plundered,and he robbed.He sank ships and made sweet little grannies walk the plank.Captain Hogswoggle disliked everyone, especially his cousin Hector.Peg Leg Lil is a true-blue pirate.She can shoot a cannon ball through a porthole, sail through a typhoon, and dig up buried treasure all day long.But there’s something about Lil that nobody knows.She can’t cook!And deep down in her salty heart, she wants to win the Pirates’ Annual Blue-water Cooking Contest more than all the treasure in the world.

These two pirates hate each other for twenty years and that’s why they sailed in different seas.That is, until they heard that Peg Leg Lil was sailing her ship, the Sea Buiscuit, to Shipwreck Island.There she planned to enter the Pirates’ Annual Blue-water Cooking Contest and win first prize with a secret recipe.When Captain Humbug heard of this he decided  to sink Peg Leg Lil ship and steal her secret recipe and Captain Hogswoggle was thinking the same thing as him.Captain Humbug wanted to sink Peg Leg Lil ship and stole her secret recipe.He raised all the sails and turned the Evil Weevil to the North.Captain Hogswoggle just wanted to plunder her recipe and make her walked the plank next Sunday then he as well raised his pirate flag, the Jolly George, and turned the Bent Barnacle to the South.

Now Peg Leg Lil was a true-blue pirate.She could shoot a cannon ball through a porthole.She could sail the Sea Biscuit safely through a raging storm.She could dig up buried treasure all day long.But there was something about her that nobody knew.Peg Leg Lil was a terrible cook.To make things worse, she had no secret recipe for the contest.But, deep in her salty heart, Peg Leg Lil wanted to win first prize in that cooking contest more than all the treasure in the world.So Lil sent the ships cook up into the crow’s-nest and took over the cooking herself.She cooked three recipes and give it to her mate to eat.All her mate hate it because its taste so awful so the whole crew abandoned ship.Peg Lil Peg did not wanted to give up so she cooked up hard a tack hash and fish-eye pie.When she tasted what she had cooked it was taste so awful and so she thought that her crew was right about it.

Trough salty storms and wailing gales, Peg Leg Lil tried to cook a dish so delicious that it would win the cooking contest.She was so busy measuring and mixing, stirring and fixing, that she didn’t notice two ships sailing into view.When these two cousins see each other they started to fight who’s going to get Peg Leg Lil’s treasure.They ended up loading their gun and fired at each other.The cannon balls soared the sky in a blaze of blue sparks.Both pirates missed by a mile. Down in the kitchen of the Sea Biscuit, Peg Leg Lil was madder than cross-eyed crab because the banging and booming was caused by the pirates has made her kelp cake fall as flat as a jellyfish.Lil grabbed every ingredient in the galley and leaped up the ladder.She charged across the ship like a cyclone and started stuffing the cannon full of eggs, whipped cream, carrot tops, fish fins, and anything else she could get her floury  hand on.She lit the fuse and stood back.

Before Captain Humbug and Captain Hogswoggle could steer clear, the cannon on the deck of the Sea Biscuit exploded with a thunderous KERR-BOOM!The whirling, swirling mixture sailed through the air and covered both ships from stem to stern in a sticky, mooshy mess.Then a great, gooey gloop of the mixture fell from the mainmast and landed on Captain Humbug face.He opened his mouth to yell but instead, a smile slowly from ear to ear.He said that this is the most delicious thing he had ever eaten.He yelled to Captain Hogswoggle to stop stomping like a stranded sawfish and try a bite.When he tried it he said that it's scrumptious.“Hey, Lil give us your recipe,” the two pirates cried.But Peg Leg Lil refused to.The pirates  told Lil that if she gave them her recipe they will promise to give up pirating for ever and helped her open a bakery.Humbug and Hogswoggle hollered to Lil that her recipe it’s not just good but it's great.They told her what does she called it.Lil thought for a moment and then laughed then she told them it’s called “High-In-The-Sky Pirate Pie”.

Peg Leg Lil join the cooking contest and win first prize, but with help of Hector and Horatio, Peg Leg Lil opened the first floating bakery on the high seas.The two cousins worked like whirlwinds in the kitchen while Lil loaded the cannon.They blasted and boomed them aboard every ship that passed within range.Word of Peg Leg Lil’s incredible edible “High-In-The-Sky Pirate Pie travelled” as fast as a hurricane.In no time at all, the treasure chests abroad the Sea Biscuit were overflowing with gold doubloons.Captain Humbug, Captain Hogswoggle and Captain Lil were indeed the happiest, busiest, and richest pirates ever to sail the seven seas.

This story is so good and it's really cool to read.My favourite character in this story was Captain Lil.The reason why she is my favourite character in this story is becaused she inspired me to never give on what you really wanted to have.(She really wanted to participate in a cooking contest but the problem is that she is not a good cooker but she never give up because she’s not a great cooker.She keep on trying)That’s the end of my review for this story.

           Secret Seven Adventure

This story is about a group of children detectives. These children detectived called themselves the S.S(Secret Seven)or S.S.S(Secret Seven Society). This group consisted of Peter (The society head), Janet (Peter’s sister), Jack, Barbara, George, Pam, and Colin. The S.S.S had their usual weekly meetings down in a old shed at the bottom of the garden belonging to Peter and Janet.

When the members came for the meeting, they simply had to say the password to unlock the door.Their password was Rabbit. The S.S had their own badge too. It came to the fourth week of their weekly meetings, and they still had nothing to report, and nothing has happened.The S.S decided to do something.They came  up with an idea that they should play American Indian and stalk someone who didn’t wear any Indian costumes.

Peter, Janet, George, Barbara, Pam, and Jack had Red Indian costumes except Colin.The S.S decided that they should stalk Colin because he was the only one with no costumes.The others went to wear their Indian costumes and painted their faces while Colin was still finding a place to hide in. Colin found a tree and he said to himself that he should climb up that tree so that they would not find him.When the others finished getting ready they counted to 100 and then started spreading out to find Colin and stalk him.

Colin was hiding on the tree. Suddenly he noticed a man jumping over the big wall which separated the main road with where they played Red Indians. Peter who was among the others also noticed the man. He began to wonder why the man appeared in their game, but just decided to ignore it. Colin thought that the man has gone, but then suddenly realised that he was climbing up the tree where he was .Colin was so afraid and his heart started beating so fast. He couldn’t move because he was so scared that the man might him. Colin did not see the man face but only his head and the tip of his ears. Because he was so afraid, he decided to sit on the tree quietly.

By then the others decided to stop the game. They called out to Colin to come because the game was over.Colin did not answer because the man was still on the tree where he was hiding.The others thought that Colin might have run away back home, so they went off to their meeting place and changed. As soon as the man saw the others leaving, he quickly went down the tree and ran away. Colin slid off from the tree as well, and ran back to their meeting and told everyone what happened.The S.S went back home and rested.

That evening, the radio announced something which suddenly made all the S.S think of the man again! ‘Lady Lucy Thomas’s magnificent and unique pearl necklace was stolen from her bedroom at Milton Manor that afternoon,” said the announcer. The S.S immediately thought that the man who stole the necklace might have been the one who came to their meeting earlier that day. They decided to call a meeting on the next day.

At their meeting the S.S thought that this was their chance to do a real adventure.They went to the police station and talked with the Chief Police and explained what happened on the day that they played American Indians at their meeting place. Then they made their way back to their Little Thicket, where they played their game of American Indians the day before. They wanted to see if they could find some clues of any thefts or of any thieves. The S.S found a lot of  clues so they kept all of them. Suddenly Colin gave a shout that made them all jumped! He  pointed to a poster with an advertisement of a circus. The S.S thought that maybe the thief was an acrobat, so they decided that it was best to go to the circus.

For two days, they all went to the circus with the clues they found at their meeting place. One time they saw a man and a girl having the same items as the clues they found at their meeting place. They tried to match and they found perfect match between them. However, Peter suggested that they did not do anything, so they left them alone.  

One night later, Peter asked Colin that the two of them went to the circus. He suggested that they went to find out who the real thief was. They went into a room and hid themselves under a bed. While there they heard two men talking about the necklace and where it was hidden. Shortly, one of the men left. He was the thief! As soon as he  got into his car, he noticed by the front mirror that there were two people in his room. He returned to the room and found the two S.S members there. He tried to catch them, but they managed to get away.

The S.S then went and reported the thief to the police. The police went and got the necklace back from the thieves. The police were really proud of seven children detectives,  and so they thanked them for the hard work that they did.

My favourite character in this story was Peter. He was so brave, very determined, and absolutely successful. He was so determined to get to the bottom of who stole the necklace. He was so brave to save his other friends from getting into troubles, he told the rest of the members of S.S. that only Colin and he were the ones who should go and did that research in the night. At the end they were very successful, they found the thief and reported to the police. The thief was arrested and the necklace was retrieved. It took Peter’s determination and bravery to bring that success.

I learned a lot from this story. In particular, I learned about bravery and determination. They are very important to have in order to succeed in what you want to do in life.

Who am I?

Hi my name is Seniola  Tupou,I am 14 years old,I was born in Tonga and i also grew up there.I come from Tonga to New Zealand this year(10/03/2017) to study.I change schools from Saint Andrew High Schools in Tonga to Tamaki College here in New Zealand.My interest/hobbies are singing,dancing,travelling,acting,eating,sleeping,performing,reading,watching movies and dramas/tv shows and hanging out with my friends.I am so into to K-POP(Korean pop music).I like BTS(RM the king),Taylor Swift,Cardi B,Ellen and EXO(LAY the King)they are my favourite celebrities and i wanted to meet them one day.I am a ELL(English Language Learner) student in Tamaki College.My favourite subject is SOS,Maths,English,Music,PE,Career and Science.My favourite teacher here at Tamaki College is Mrs Feb's and Mrs Robertson.I am trying so hard to improve my English.I like studding here at Tamaki College.That's all about me.

Whats it means to be successful

Being successful means the achievement of desired visions and planned goals. Furthermore, success can be a certain social status that describes a prosperous person that could also have gained fame for its favourable outcome. 
EG:
In this past few months on 2017,i had an Excellence on my career pathway.The reason why get an Excellence is because i try my best to complete my works even though that i am not that good at English but i succeed the works that my teacher has gave to me.The reason that i was successful is because i complete my all my works,i listen to the teacher and i have always on task.This Excellence meant a lot to me because it can helped me a lot with my future dreams or my goal for the future.

"REASON WHY IT IS IMPORTANT"

To me,the reason why it is important to read and write during the holiday because it can helps the student to understand how stories work,it can develop the mind of the students,it can build new skills to them,its help them know how to write the correct words,learning new words,know how the the sentence must be in order to correct.

I think that students will love to write about their lives,their secret,wishes,lyrics,goal,letter,family and themselves because they found it funny.They also love to write because they think it might be a story for their lives.

The reason why i put help my neighbour around the world at the top because i have been dreaming of doing this things and i also watch on YouTube about the homeless people and so i kind of like wanting to do it.I also found it hard to watch my own people suffering because of hunger it makes me feel hurt,so i decided to make this things happen i wanna give my neighbour a better place i wanna help.

I think that Tamaki Whanau/Family means to the people who lived in Tamaki(student,teacher,staff) and i think  the reason why students and staff at our school described as a family because school(Tamaki College) is a another home for students and teachers and stuff to learn more about ourselves and because the teachers and stuff is like a parents to us student ,and student is like brothers and sisters.I also think that because school( Tamaki College)is like a place where we learn more about our ancestry and of-course we could also know our bloodline as well so that's why.

"MY ELECTION FINAL RESULT."

This the final result that i have found out.I just found out that the National party has the most vote and the Labour is the second.I have found out that the vote is not about how many they have they will have to wait for other party to vote for them too.I want the labour to won the election because my family support and they love Labour than National.

"Summary paragraph about party policies."

In social studies i studied political party policies of education,housing and health.the education policy that i best supported was the Maori party policy because this party can provide free primary and secondary education to all children and they provide free after school care and holiday programmes for all children and this is a big help for the children.The reason why i supported this party because i did not vote for the party policies but  because i like what their gonna do for their party.The housing policy that i best supported was the NZ First party policy because with this party  if you get in trouble with the  payment of the sale of state house,the government will do something for you and you have to do it.So i think it better to support local councils to provide more pensioner house and require councils to have a socials house plan and you don’t have to worry for anything.The reason why i supported this party because i support and i want to vote for NZ First.the health policy that i best supported was the Top party policy,because with this party  i think it is better to ban junk food advertising and then require schools to have healthy eating policies and raise the drinking age to 20.This is a great thing to do it will give long life for our children and also the people too.I think it is better to raise the drinking age to 20 because it is not time for people under 20 to drink because their still young.The party that i would vote for in 2017 is the NZ First party policy because i love this party and this party i love the idea based on it and how they gonna provide their party.I am a NZ first supporter.

Our Survivors Group consisted of  Jasonette,Soana,Kanesinsu and myself.We chose Jasonette as our leader.We chose our leader by seeing  who work so hard for our group.The reason we want Jasonette to become our leader is because she was the first person who came up with the best ideas first. We also would like her to become the leader because she worked hard on each slide and she made each slide so we could work on it. She is also independent, hard-working and she is persistent with her work. The problem that my group and i have faced is that our communication eg: i am a very shy to talk to my groups about what i know.We solved this problem by working together as a group and they talk to me.The one in our group that made decisions is Jasonette because she is our leader.Yes it is our leader who made decisions because she always bring up the best ideas and then we the rest of our groups can add some to her ideas.We complete this task by working together as group eg: talk to each other,share each other what they know and help to each other.The similarities between pretending to be a survivor on a island(task)and reality is that all our thinking that we used in our task like eg: steps to survive:find food,build a shelter and etc..all of that things that we used in our task,we used it when we land on an deserted island in reality.The differences between pretending to be a survivor on an island (task)and reality is that all the thing that we do on task is just thinking,we don’t do it we just imagine what we will do if we are  on an deserted island.But when we land on an deserted island in reality all our thinking that we do do on task we do it in real life.

In term 2 I conducted a Social Inquiry on Migration.My Social Inquiry focused on the movement migrant China to New Zealand.The push reason why Chinese people left their country of origin was because China was beset by overpopulation,land,shortages,famine,drought,banditry,peasant revolt.Another push reason why they left their country is because a steady stream of able-bodied young men sought their fortunes overseas.There is a another push reason why Chinese people left their country is because the government already made a new law in November 2013 that every family need to have only two babies/child because their country was overpopulation.The pull reason why they were attracted to New Zealand was becauseAppo Hocton is the first person who immigrant from China to New Zealand in 1842.He came to New Zealand because b of work,he starting work as a servant and he eventually became a businessman in 1852.

Some came to New Zealand because they were bought to work at Otago goldfields in 1886.Another pull reason why they left their country is because ofThe world war and because some Chinese people immigrant to New Zealand because of gold miners.Some of the obstacle they faced while living in New Zealand is after 1907 all arrival Chinese people are required  to sit English test. From 1920 entry to New Zealand was by permit only,which severely restricted the numbers of Chinese immigrants.Chinese people on New Zealand were deprived of the old age pension until 1936.My personal perspective  The way I see the Chinese immigrant is very hurtful because i can see how they suffer from overpopulation,famine,drought etc….I think it better for the Chinese people to immigrant to overseas country(NZ) because they can have what they want like have a good job,have a good life,feel free from overpopulation,and they could also free from the law that their government has created eg: Each family could only have two children,but here in overseas there is no law like that.

=Push factor:The reason why she came here to NZ,because her father want her to go to NZ and worked and send money to them to her father to Samoa to renew their Samoa/old house to a palangi house.
2)Challenge she faced.What did she difficult to cope with?
Her speaking in English is so difficult because it is not her language.
3)How did she faced her challenge?Where did get helped from?
=She faced her challenge when she talked to  a palangi person,but she get helped from the library.She always went to the library with her children to read and she started to learned her English by reading.

"The year 9 camp 2017"

WHEN?=Our camp starts on Monday 26th of June 2017 and finished on Tuesday the 27th of June.
WHERE?=We have our camp on YMCA CAMP ADAIR HUNUA rd.
MY HIGHLIGHT=The beast.
SOMETHING I ENJOYED THE MOST=I enjoyed sleeping together with my classmates girls,eating,showering and i enjoyed having fun playing lot of activity.
THINGS THAT I DON'T ENJOY THE MOST=The thing i don't enjoyed the most is the confidant course activity because we did that activity at the morning and that morning was really cold like i'm going to die.
THE THINGS THAT I LIKE ABOUT MY TEAM=The things that i like about my team is this,I like my team because we communicate to each other and we listen to each other.
HOW MANY DAYS I WANT TO STAY ON CAMP=I love to stay on camp for about the whole week.
WHAT I HAVE LEARNED ON THE CAMP=I learn how to communicate with new kids.
